Portraits Of Strangers
These are portraits of strangers. They are people I met when I went out with my camera in search of connections, finding subjects who seemed easy-going and down to earth. As a newcomer to this city, this helped me feel more at home. My hope is to show the beauty that people have when they are truly themselves.
I wanted to do this work because of how I discovered photography. In 2020, I was asked to model for a friend and it was a life changing experience. Clearly I remember that day– I was completely lacking confidence, overwhelmed by a feeling of nervousness, and thought, “I am not photogenic enough.” It was one of the weirdest experiences but fun. After I got my camera, I started photographing professional models and while the pictures were beautiful, they lacked a sort of mystery. The models knew how to control themselves for the camera, but the emotional aspect was missing. It was then that I realized people who are not used to being in front of the camera bring a level of mystery and unpredictability to photographs that I find exciting.
